Extended Test of New Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season Tires

3 Month Progress Report – December 20, 2013

Goodyear provided a set of their new Eagle Sport All-Season tires for extended testing under real-world conditions. Granted Northern California is not the best place to find out if the Eagle Sport All-Season tires perform in snowy conditions, but we can at least test under wet conditions when it actually does rain. This is our second in a series of four reports. After three months we drove 2,500 miles under dry conditions and the tires are performing like a champ.

Turn-in response, dry traction performance, and a low amount of road noise continue to define the Eagle Sport A/S tires. The sidewall is stiff enough not to allow rollover under hard cornering, but compliant enough such that ride quality is not compromised. We also liked the stable handling characteristics of the Eagle Sport A/S tires. Grip on dry surfaces is superb — almost as good as a high performance summer tire — and predictable when you actually begin to get close to the tire’s handling limits.

After three months of daily commuting, running errands, and attacking as many corners and freeway on/off ramps as permissible, tread depth for the front tires is showing more signs of wear than the rears — which is all within expectations given our driving style.

Targeted for sports car, coupe, sedan and sporty crossover vehicles that need all-season traction in dry, wet, and light snow conditions, the Goodyear Eagle Sport A/S is a great all-around tire that keeps on performing even when the weather gets less than ideal. Our test vehicle is a 2002 Acura RSX Type S and considered a light, sporty coupe/hatchback. After three months and 2,500 miles, our appreciation of the Eagle Sport A/S tire grows with each passing mile.
