10 Gas Pedals You Won’t Believe

The depth and breadth of automotive products available on eBay Motors is staggering. We recently plumbed those depths by searching for custom gas pedals. Here’s what we found. (Also see our Guide to Upgrading Your Vehicle’s Gas and Brake Pedals.)

Exotic and Vintage

The rarity of a pedal set for a 1972 Maserati Bora Merak (above left) is underscored by its Buy it Now price of $1,749.99.  This part includes a hydraulic piston that by itself could fetch more than $1,000. Those prices make the $600 price tag on a replacement gas pedal for a Ferrari (above right) seem like a bargain.

exotic-pedals-3-549NOS (New Old Stock) items are always in demand by automobile restoration purists. German car parts for VW and Porsche are at the top of the list. This odd-looking gas pedal (left) is called a VW Kåfer Cox Beetle Pertohaus for early VW bugs.  It comes from a museum in Germany and is for early Type 1 Beetles. It can be had for $325.

In the 1950s, cast aluminum pedals for go-carts, hot-rods, and racing boats were all the rage. The best pedals were made by EELCO of Portland, Ore. They were coveted by rat-rod builders and collectors of 1950s auto memorabilia.  The vintage example (center) is selling for $300. Another prospect for a rat-rad project (right) is a Tiffany aftermarket hot rod pedal from the 1940s and 1950s.

Got a 1938 Ford truck that you need pedals for?  Here is brake and clutch assembly (above on green background) from a 1938 three-quarter-ton flathead V8 truck that could fit the bill. It’s listed as used with a current bidding price of only $0.99.

Modern Classics

In the 1980s and 19990s, a standard accessory for any custom car was aluminum billet pedals. While they don’t have the same cachet today, they are still in demand for period hot-rods and customs.  This a custom billet set (above) for 1958 – 1967 Chevys add a period look for only $190.

A range of classic pedals can add style to any car—old or new. The most famous of them is the “moon style” pedal, originally designed by Moon Racing. They epitomize the 1950 – 1960 Southern California car scene. A used set (left) is available on eBay. If your goal is to add bling, there are no end to the types of available pedals—in aluminum, carbon fiber, or just about any other finish or color. Perhaps the most unusual pedal we found (above right) feature outrageously cool blue flames from an LED light.
