[UPDATE Jan 9, 2:30 PM (PST): Reserve price has been removed!]
If you’ve got a thing for vintage pickup trucks and you want one owned and driven by the King of Cool, we’ve got some good news: up for sale on eBay Motors is a 1941 Chevy pickup previously owned and driven by Steve McQueen which he would drive around town to avoid the public eye.
According to Mike (eBay id bighouses), the truck had some recent cosmetic restoration work — new paint, new interior, new wood bed, and conversion to 12V electrical system. A personal touch is the Von Dutch style shift knob with McQueen’s initials. Not to be ignored and included with the sale is the original pink slip with McQueen’s name.

Two years ago our friends at Bring a Trailer saw this famous truck up for sale on eBay. Mike confirmed he had purchased the truck from a private party in the Midwest back in 2010.
We always encourage potential buyers to do some research, but from what we can tell the auction looks legitimate. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will even be donated to The Boy’s Republic School in Chino, California, a cause still supported by McQueen’s family.

the king of coo’s truck.. words cant describe how sweet it is..
This is a horribly written piece in general, but “Included with the sale is the original pink slip with McQueen’s name and loads of his DNA.”? Really? That’s just creepy.
I agree it is a little creepy. Sentence has been modified.
I sure wouldn’t quote those guys at ‘Bring a Trailer’. Pfffth.

VERY interested—-in WHAT price???? I am a SERIOUS contender.
I don’t care who Steve McQueen is? just because it has his name on the document doesn’t mean the truck is worth a lot of money. I would like to put a bid of $500.oo no more then $3,500.00 The truck still needs work on the inside.

lets rock & roll give me a price
I would like to have seen it before someone restored it. now, a lot of the intrigue and glamor is gone…….
I am just going to throw this out there…and its not towards or geared towards the future owner or anyone that is bidding on this….I am willing to bet that people are going to buy this truck and try to sell to Rick from Pawn Stars seeing that he is a big steve mcqueen fan. I know that i would if i had big money..Just sayin
No power steering. Rides like a log wagon.
Wouldn’t want it if it was free.
whomever repainted the interior of this classic old truck used the wrong color, all the old trucks of this era were the same color inside, a sort of gun metal gray. The original style GM heater is a nice touch also,However the after market choke cable in the cigar lighter hole stinks where are the original headlight rings, they were chrome.painted rings were not used til mid ’42
Original paper work? where was this truck from 1941 to 1978? this registration expired in Jan 1979.
Steve McQueen’s initial claim to fame was that he wrenched on James Dean’s motorcycles. His view of machinery was from the inside out. His passion was to be surrounded by the best stuff he could find, and like his habit of buying two or three servings of a meal, ‘in case they run out’, he bought cars, bikes, trucks, watches, whatever he could, in excess, because he could. If this, indeed, was his truck, and it has been over-restored, and someone buys it because it was his, good for them. They have earned the right to brag. They put their money where their mouth is. However, I feel like the truck would have been better if it had not been restored. The reason he owned it was that it let him drive incognito. That choice and the condition it was in would be worth more than if the restorer had gold plated the whole thing. Historically accurate objects accrue value for their authenticity. As it is, now, it’s a glitzy object d’ art, and neither fish nor fowl.
I agree 100% with your comments gumbojack. Things like this tend to be over-restored to the point of nasuea.
Is truck still for sale
Auction for McQueen’s old truck closed on Jan 9 and sold for $66,099.
Drove a ’46 back in 1969. Would imagine it was the same thing…they were in such a hurry to get back into production after the war that they just picked up where they left off, pending getting newer models launched. Anyway, it was a “working truck,” not fixed up. Between the cab and the back, had about 12 other kids in the thing, I was elected owing to being the only one who could drive a stick. My dad would have skinned me alive if he knew. It was fun…and two years older than my $65 Fleetmaster back home. It wasn’t until I became a parent that I realized what I pain in the you-know-what it must have been to raise me.
