eBay Listing: 1954 Fiat Stanguellini Mille Miglia Red Barchetta
1954 Stanguellini Mille Miglia Red Barchetta with a Fiat Abarth 1100 cc engine.
That was a mouthful wasn’t it? Some cars just have that right look, and this one has it. The look of something that belongs on the lawn at a premier concours, like Amelia Island or Pebble Beach, or on a world renowned race course, or maybe a bit of both. 1950s and 1960s racecars had that something and it was streamlining. Essentially it was a practice of incorporating some of the slipperiest designs of the time into the bodywork of the racing and street cars of the day. This practice also created some extremely sensuous curves, ones that would give Sophia Loren a run for her money. Race cars that exemplify this statement include but are not limited to the Shelby Daytona, Shelby Cobra, Ford GT40, and countless Ferraris — most notably the 250 GTO or the 250 GT SWB. In the 1960’s racing world, curves were in and we wish they never had left.
Today’s car is Stanguellini built Fiat wrapped in a stunningly beautiful and curvaceous Barchetta body and painted in electrifying Mille Miglia Red. It might not be the most the most expensive car in the world, but it does have that certain “it” factor. This car looks like it could have gone toe to toe with some of the best that Europe and America once offered, and could once again be a contender in historic races across the world.
The ’54 Stanguellini has a Fiat inline four-cylinder engine and gearbox, and tuned by Abarth. Mechanically, the engine is an 1100CC with an overhead cam, which was way ahead of its time. The car was raced in Europe, and while it never was in the Mille Miglia, it has the right look of a car that could or should’ve been able to do so. For those looking for a car on the level (or above) with the likes of Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and other great European marques this might be the car for you.
