eBay Motors gave our audience a garage “throwdown” with you, our viewers, helping select a winner. We challenged four of the best garages in the world, absolute masters in different classes of vehicles, to build the best vehicle from parts and accessories sourced from eBay.
Each garage represented a publication — Hot Rod, Lowrider, European Car, and Four Wheeler – and was coached by an editor from the corresponding magazine. Our 10 episode video series tracked every build, from frame to paint where we met the competitors involved with putting every part together into their envisioned masterpiece.
Today we hosted a live on-line chat session with the creative minds behind each of the four BUILT vehicles. Many of you challenged the minds of the builders and editors with your questions around the BUILT cars. Take a look at the transcript below!

Comment From Smoku
I have one question to Lowrider team. Why you dind’t put hydraulic in camino? |
11:58
RICO:
Due to a saftey issue. Many people don’t know how to work on them and being that this car was to be auctioned off this was to our best interest. |
11:59

Comment From Smoku
Ok I get it. Thank you for answer |

Who will be rolling the dice at SEMAVegas next week? |
12:01
John Cappa:
I never have any luck with gambling. I’m better off spending it on busted 4×4 parts. |
12:01
Comment From Jerry Pitt
I’ll be rolling hot rods, no dice. |
12:02

RICO:
I will be rollin the dice and watchin the roulett wheel! |

Comment From HotRodder
What inspired the BUILT from eBay video series? |
12:03
BUILT Producers:
Great question! This was inspired by former builds Source Interlink has partnered on eBay with, as well as the huge selection of parts and accessories available on eBay. Seemed like too good a challenge to pass up! |
12:04
Comment From derek@ebay.com
Any nice surprises during testing after the build? |
12:05

12:06
Comment From marit
i really like the most recent video about the Mercedes-Benz SLS on the eBay blog. What’s in the works for the next videos? |
12:07
Greg Emmerson:
We decided to recreate an ’80s-style Porsche rally car since the Porsche 911 has been modified in so many ways but this was different to most conversions. the rally lights were part of the rally-style makeover we carried out |
12:08
Comment From LowriderLover
Is it gonna be BUILT 2? |
12:09
RICO:
We had a nice surprise, as we were road testing the El Camino the film crew asked me to blow by them and when i pushed the gas pedal the passing gear wasn’t engaging, so i had to make some minor adjustments. |
12:09
Team GSR:
We used he Rothman’s sponsored 1980′s Porsche rally cars as our primary inspiration. |
12:09
mark dewey:
We are in discussion with eBay Motors for SEASON 2 of BUILT. What would you want to see us build next? |

Brian Mackey:

12:12
Comment From Jerry Pitt – Hot Rod
As for the speed of the van, Mackey may want to claim the 5th. I thought it was solidly in the 13s. Hoping to be in the 12s. |

Comment From derek

12:20
RICO:
I’ll take the desert route in the 4 Wheel drive! |
12:20
Team GSR:
Of course the Porsche but since our shop is focused on performance the “Jeepster” was impressive… at what is was built to do. |
12:20
eBay Motors:
Let’s show a photo of the Jeep Jeepster to our fans here. |
12:20

12:25
BUILT Producers:
We’re glad you liked it! You guys were great partners |
12:26
Comment From Jerry Pitt

The vehicles were chosen as a collaboration between our teams at Source Interlink with a unique twist to make the builds a challenge. We also wanted to make sure that they were each individual and reflective of a specific genre.
12:26
Comment From Damage
So these vehicles were built in a really short period of time. Would you hop in and drive them cross country as is? |
12:27
Brian Mackey:
From Cali to NYC in a secound |
12:27
Team GSR:
We have built complete race cars in a weeks time when a customer has crashed theirs in testing so 8 weeks seemed like a long time to us. |
12:27
John Cappa:
We might have to avoid a few states in the Jeepster to be legal. |
12:27
Comment From Tee Lambert
What was the reasoning behind the choice of the tires for the Jeepster? |
12:28
12:28
Comment From LowriderLover
only if you are not driving the van then it’s 2 seconds |
12:29
John Cappa:
We wanted some of the most aggressive tires available that were still streetable. That’s why we went with the Nitto Mud Grapplers on the Jeepster. |
12:29
Comment From Jerry Pitt
I’d ride shotgun with Brian. |
12:29

Comment From Jerry Pitt
Cappa, you’d never take a paved road anyway. |

12:33
RICO:
How long will the BUILT be up on the internet? |
12:33
John Cappa:
We wanted something a little more uncommon than a Wrangler or Cherokee. |

Comment From derek
How high was the suspension on the Porsche rallycar? |
12:41
John Cappa:
It’s actually adjustable. On the 2012 Wrangler frame it’s about a 4-inch lift or so as it sits. |
12:42
Brian Mackey:
I was hoping Mr. T came with the van but no one was inside |
12:42

T-Bone hose Clamp end covers why didn’t I think of that LOL |
12:42

But 911 was also lightened considerably, that allowed the suspension to rise a little |

Comment From CustomRestorer
How was the paint job decided on for the Porsche? |
