Chevrolet Surprises NYIAS Media with 2014 Camaro Z28
General Motors managed to create more interest in a refresh than we’ve seen in a long time thanks to a surprising (and confusing) debut of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS during Tuesday’s Live with Kelly and Michael. The unexpected sighting generated buzz for a car that might have otherwise slipped in and out of this year’s New York International Auto Show largely unnoticed, in light of the debut of its GM stable-mate, the all-new Cadillac CTS. It turns out GM did have something up its sleeve for Camaro fans after all: a new Z28.
As far as the 2014 Camaro goes, this is a purely cosmetic refresh: new for 2014 are the front fascia, which has been completely redesigned with a smaller grille opening; the new hood with functional heat extractor, and the new rear spoiler. The big news for the 2014 model year is the debut of the Z28 edition Camaro, resurrecting one of the most popular model designations in General Motors history. The new Z28 is powered by the 7.0-liter LS7 small block V8, currently found in the C6 Corvette Z06. No official power numbers yet but GM is promising “at least 500 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque” in a package some 300 pounds lighter than the current Camaro ZL1. We’ll uh, we’ll take it.
