Gas Monkey Garage Listing: 1972 Ford Mustang

eBay Listing: 1972 Ford Mustang Restomod

Updated: March 25, 2014 9:00 PM

Don’t you wish you could watch a car get restored and updated before you buy it? We’re pretty excited that we have an outlet to do that. So we’re gonna try something new — tune into Discovery’s Fast N’ Loud tonight, 3.24, at 9/8C and watch us work on a car that we will then put up for auction on eBay as soon as the show ends.  And now the secret is out of the bag: the auction will only last for 24 hours and we’re listing this car with NO RESERVE. Believe it!

1972 ford mustang | gas monkey garage

I’ve had a great time working with eBay curating collections and blogging about some of the cars we’ve put up for auction, and this is just the next step in that partnership. We hope this auction brings new visitors to eBay and spreads even more excitement around what we’re doing here at Gas Monkey Garage.

Bid now before this one gets away. Auction listing closes March 25 7:45 PM (PDT): 1972 Ford Mustang Restomod

Updated: March 25 at 9:00 PM

WOW!! The response to the ’72 Mustang was overwhelmingly AWESOME. We did have to remove some unusual bids. But, we have a WINNER! The Mustang is headed to Maryland for $51,377.00!!

Thanks to all our fans! You guys ROCK!!!

I watched that episode and wish i knew that car was here it would be in my drive way now is there a way to get notified which cars are n ebay

  2. BikerGraham says:

Hi to all at Gas Monkey garage from Bikergraham here in Plymouth ,England.Just to say that it’ll probably be another year before we are treated to this episode!Last week i have to say was one of the worst episodes of the show,[ smokey and the bandit ]and in my opinion was a farse and a disappointment as it’s generally the highlight of the week.I do hope you’ll be doing some more of my favourites, the big old street sleepers and early hot rods,i did’nt really go much on the 70s and later cars ,same as i much prefer flathead ,knuckle, and pan Harleys, anyway dont let me down guys,1 bad apple doesnt mean the tree has to come down.!!Best regards.

    • Carlos A.Leal says:

In reply BikerGraham: I have to say that the Smokey&TheBandit Episode was excellent and special. Out of all the Car TV-Shows around today FastN’Loud is the Very Best. The Whole Thing is “Real” and “Human”…the Folks on-there are not ‘Actors ‘, they are real ‘Car-Builder/Car Repair folks. I believe TV Audiences really relate and identify with those folks; expecially Richard Rawling and Master-Man Aaron. Those guys are awsome and the TV-Show is Unique and Awsome too. Keep-Up the Great Episodes and the Good Work. Even upholstery-lady is cool; not to mention Ms on the Computer…she keeps it going; of course now with help from Richard’s sister. A Great Team and a Great TV Entertainment…Love The Cars…The Finish Products.

    • kc1tx says:

Exaclty .. suspect bidders to a suspect price for a plain jane mustang.

      • Carlos A.Leal says:

Well kcltx:) I believe what happened with this Green-Submarine/72 Mustang is that Richard Rawling ‘Snookered’ himself…and Paid way too much for that car. Now he is upside-down/behind the eight-ball and needs to unload it. It does look good and a 16/yr.old high-schooler would love to have it…but Daddy has to be rich to buy it.

  5. amike95 says:

Been messing with muscle cars all my life. Currently have a concouse 69 Roadrunner. Watched the show several times. In short, would never buy anything they have had their hands on.

    • vincent georges says:

If you watch this crew of buffoons for anything but comedy relief…..who removes any vehicle from a transport truck with a tiny pallet forklift? They’re big time resto mod engine builders and “forget” to use break in oil? Howbout “Just Loud” or “Dumb and Dumber and Dumbest”?

      • amike95 says:

I guess they figure if they did things the right way, their rating wouldn’t be as high.

      • Dennis says:

I stopped watching this show a while back. I couldn’t believe they thought if they could polished a pig it should turn it into gold. All they are doing is falsely forcing up the value of cars and giving people unreal expectations of what they could get from there’s after giving it a wash and wax. I watched the show again to see what had changed and it was more of a joke.

  6. camdog says:

Great to see the 71-73 mustang sportsroof cars finally getting their recognition. I love this body style especially in the Mach 1 format. I prefer the big tires in the back rake like they did back in the 70′s but this one is nice with the lower stance. These years are starting to take off in value after being forgotten by many mustang fans. The 351 Cleveland which was put in the Mach 1 of this era is one of the baddest engines Ford ever produced.

  7. skip says:

We like Gas Monkey Garage too, no more auctions! just put your stuff on ebay like this mustang and you’ll be as rich as Dennis in no time.

  8. JP says:

Too bad you didn’t sell the Boss 429 on EBAY…you might have gotten a cool $1M…good looking ’72…

    • Carlos A.Leal says:

JP:)I agree, that Black-Boss/429…would have easily brought $1/Million Dollars on e-bay…But they can say what they want to..That High-Rolling Richard Rawling is not ‘afraid to go for it’, which is what it take to make money ! After everything is said and done he comes-out okay…I guess the cheapest help he has is his ‘Beer-Assistant’; but nevertheless that’s a crucial-role.

  9. Jim Anderson says:

These guys are clowns. Some of the crap they build borders on “stupid”. The 53 Ford “gasser” that they figured everyone wanted. What a laugh at the auction. The bearded know it all and the “Mr Slick” Richard. How scripted can a show be and still be on the air? But you have to hand it to someone, they moved out of a house garage behind their trailer house to a big shop and now a restaurant. Guess it wasn’t just the Three Stooges who made a living being stupid.
Have to say though, if it happens to be on, I’ll watch a little bit to see what creation they come up with next then switch to the History channel.

  10. Edward Knorr says:

There’s this thing that should have came with your TV. Its called a remote control. Use it to change the channel if you don’t like the show. You must be too stupid to know this, or you would have already done it. I love the show so SHUT YOUR MOUTH ALREADY1111

  11. Ed. Martini says:

You are mr rubbish. We all know we can change the program so next time shot up and let people express their opinion.

  12. Randy says:

    It’s maybe a $25,000 to $30,000 car at most.

  13. BOB says:

  14. Paul says:

Did they sell 1969 Boss 429 for $160k in auction by few months ago?

  15. ME says:

It’s not a convertible, plus the hood isn’t even original. Like most of you said $25 ,000 $30,000 tops, and that’s being nice.

  16. Al Lecrone says:

I enjoy the show alot and I know the Mustang they are selling is worth some good money ( Maybe 20 grand tops ), But give me a break, Is there someone out there that stupid that would really spend 200 thousand on a plain jane Mustang fastback with a stock 302

    • Carlos A.Leal says:

Al Lecrone: You have the vehicles mixed-up. The Boss 429 that sold at Auction for $160/grand, was suppose to bring at least $200/Grand; the plain-jane/Green 72 Mustang was not really worth $20/Grand…but they are saying it brought $51/thousand plus ! I guess Richard wins some and loses some…but then it all comes-out good at the end of the wash.

  17. William says:

more g.m. cars, make more money. jesus loves you. thanks billy g.

  18. Kelly says:

So, I’m curious to see if the idiot that paid way too much is on the next episode picking up his car. It will be fun to laughe at him!!

  19. ME says:

$51,000 final price. still too much.

  20. go green!! says:

I like think theyre great. if you don’t enjoy the show don’t watch. if you do enjoy the show, then get yourself a beer assistant and enjoy!!!

  21. Bimboina says:

To echo “Go Green!!’s comment: “If you don’t enjoy the show, don’t watch.” My husband and I watch Fast ‘N Loud, both for its humor, and for the interesting cars they find and do such amazing things with! I would respond to those who have claimed this Mustang went for “way too much”: Have you never heard of PROVENANCE??? It is a major factor in the valuation of all sorts of things, cars included. A car that has been featured in an episode of Fast ‘N Loud is automatically going to fetch a premium due to its provenance. It is no longer “just any old” 1972 Mustang once Richard, Aaron, and the crew have worked their magic on it on national TV! Beer assistant!

    • Roy Mcclenney says:

Gas Monkey provenance is garbage. Have you not watched the show? Ever car they touch is damaged forever. I know this is reality TV. So, I am sure most of the sales are rigged. You would have to pay me to buy that crap. Cut and welded in the worst way. Have you ever seen them media blast a car before they painted it? Just remember the millions they being paid to pretend.

  22. steve says:

just a standard 72 mustang 302 2v with a new carb manifold new “sue” interior. not a mach i not the grande model. no 351.

on a good day at mecum 14 15 16 17k tops. no options. the added price
is because of gas monkey garage!

ii love the show i love the guys the smokey burt reynolds show was hilarious
with the mechanic as the sheriff!

provenance be damned! so whadda ya gonna do? pay 55 60 grand for a 20 grand car and go to shows and say i bought it from gas monkey and
    met richard rawlings?

got money to burn go ahead. the car wont sell. people love the show but not that much

  23. rick says:

how you pay %51g for a piece of junk you just watched them build for a third of that is nuts

  24. Dale says:

It’s hard to believe that they got 51,000 for the car seeing that on the show they only paid 7,500 for it and only put new springs ,shocks wheels, tires, paint and interior and 4 barrel .New owner must have more money then brains.

  25. petey says:

some of you professional b-sitters, that watch the show,, have nothing to do,, and alot to say .. don,t like it watch your reruns ,,of OCC throwing trash cans and slaming doors, that was good for the kids to watch.forget the price of the stang and look at your kids eyes when he,,or ,,she sees the car..i like to here what the parents say when the kids watch the show..hope to meet you guys and kick one back. at the gumball ralley. with my tr6.. look out rich it,s BADASS ,,LOL petey .great show, not stuff shirt .keep on keepin on

  26. Randy says:

The new owner will be in for a rude awakening when he decides to sell it.
I would have done a colour change on the interior ( black), use the 71 grill and plastic colour keyed bumper to go along with the hood. with those changes alone it could have fetched another $10,000 !!!!!!

  27. Wayne Smith says:

I bought a 1951 Desoto convertible from these guys, through ebay, before their television fame. It was nothing like advertised. In the description there was no mention that the windows were propped up by pieces of wood as the winder mechanism had been removed and were missing. The top frame was broken and so I had to get new arms cast, the seats were shredded under the covers, which when I asked the question I was told that they were good original seats. The top mechanism never worked, the underside, floors, trunk floor etc needed extensive welding due to rot through. The tires were shot, the list goes on. When I asked questions prior to bidding it seems I was told what they thought I would like to hear rather than actual facts regarding condition.
I couldn’t go back to ebay as I live in the UK and the time it took for the car to get here etc meant it was over 30 days.
Then I was trying to do some research on the 1951 Desoto and I found my actual car on a website as having been sold in auction a few weeks before it was sold to me.
They were obviously just after the quick buck!

  28. Greg says:

Wondering why at 8hrs and 11 mins before the auction current bid on Ebay was $200,200.00 then closed at 51K … I snapped a photo on my phone and sent it to a few buddies . I never seen my ebay auctions jump around … wonder who’s playing games .

  29. Greg says:

Wonder why with 8hrs and 11mins the auction price was at $200,200.00 and the sale closed at 51k … wonder who is playing with the auctions .

  30. mike kelleher says:

I bought a 71 fastback with 87.000 origional miles for 32.000. totally stock never been restored 351 4 speed. Don’t believe your car sold for that much.

  31. mike c says:

When are they going to start to restore the car…LOL

  32. New England John says:

51 Grand and they didn’t even paint the jams??????????????????? Richard is laughing all the way to the bank!

  33. vince says:

I can’t believe Someone paid 51000 for this car . You did not restore it .you put a bigger intake on the motor hoping it dont blow up the motor .you painted over the old paint knowing of some bad body work …so you tell us you don’t do business by being a shady dealer but as the rest of the world sees this showit looks that way .and Discovery channel WOW shock tv its going to get people wanting to turn shows like this off …

  34. lball1955 says:

the best builder is skip, the quality of the work done by the show overhaulin is unbeatable. I do enjoy the gas monkey garage show but would not let them build my car

  35. Edward Munday says:

Owned This Exact Same Car Once, Same Color Same Hood But No Side Stripes. Mine Also Had The Rear Spoler And A High Rise Intake 360 Cam. But I Shure Didnt Get That Price Out Of Mine.

  36. craig says:

This is called TV Land people,I have work on so many TV shows, do really think a safe car can done week. take a ride in it, and see if would buy it.

  37. Maximim Bob says:

Thats a really nice $18,000 car. Only an idiot paid that kind of money, especially considering what a grade a douche Rawlings is.

  38. Carlos A.Leal says:

Just a Word to The Wise:) As long as Richard Rawling don’t burn-anyone with bad-painted-up Junkers and Keeps it honest. And don’t pay so dang-much when buying the cars; then you don’t have to ask so much for them when selling them. Oh an how about getting away from the little stuff and rebuild a real-classic Cadillac…like a 2001 El Dorado; making sure the Northstar Engine won’t overheat and blow-head-gasket. That would be a cool car; Polo Green even, now that would be the ticket !

  39. shsron says:

    I have a 1963 Cadillac for sale 6000.

  40. Robert Novack says:
