eBay Listing: 1977 Datsun 200SX

This first-year “Silvia” is a high-desert car that’s reportedly rust-free, complete and all-original, including the absolutely desiccated ’70s brown paint. The seller says it “starts right up without hesitation” and “runs great.” He says everything works and mentions that he would drive it anywhere. It looked like a no-brainer when I spotted it at a bid of $560 and no reserve.

These cars have a strange, alien shape that’s sure to have a polarizing effect on your friends, but I think they’re just plain cool. I’d see about sourcing a new dash and some replacement buckets, but I’d leave the toasted paint exactly as it is.

Wow! I thought they were all gone….My girlfriend had a 1977 Datsun 200SX ( Montrose, Ca. ) and it drove excellent. We took it up to visit her Dad in Reno ( from Montrose ) and we only used a tank and a half. Great riding car , fun interior , good on gas, no rattles, rear wheel drive…..I know Datsun raced the ’77 -’78 200SX ( road course ) and had great results with it. As Neil Young would say; ” Long may you run….”.

Wow, I had one of these in the mid 80′s.
It was a 78 and i kicked the crap out of it, it was hard to kill, cool car but it wasn’t up to off road beatings like Honda Civics and VW bugs could handle.
I think this is the first one i’ve seen since i junked mine, cool car!

My advise? Keep a car like this on the road only, they don’t like jumping or playing in the mud.

I don’t get it… it’s so ugly its own mother would push it away, wasn’t particularly reliable and accelerated like a snail on molasses…. what’s next, nostalgically fawning over the imagined benefits of the Yugo? I think we’re falling victim to that human fault of selective memory. Your recollections of the cars you owned 30+ years ago seem so pleasant because it was great being 30+ years younger than we are now.
I know it’s hard to stay out of the rut of covering only popular models like 60′s muscle cars or the really odd, but there has to be some appeal (and you usually find it, like the excellent piece on the ’74 Dodge Colt GT) but this thing… well dig a hole and bury it. Then did another and bury the shovel you dug the first hole with.
