eBay Listing: 1962 Chrysler New Yorker Wagon

This 1962 New Yorker wagon looks like an early ’60s vision of the future, inside and out. It’s a lot to take in, with the slanted stacked headlights, horizontal tailfins and pillarless hard top styling. But the wagon body actually pulls it all together far more successfully than the commonly seen sedans.

The car has been off the road and garaged for some time, and the interior is incredibly well preserved. Check out all the buttons and switches on that space-age dash!

The list of mechanical issues to be addressed is short and straightforward, including brakes, an exhaust leak, gas tank leak, and an a/c hose leak—nothing that couldn’t be dealt with at home. The seller says the car jumps to life quickly and that the doors shut solidly.

These cars are rare, rare, rare, and they represent a kind of an aesthetic detour from mainstream automotive evolution. I’d like to see this one brought back to life and loaded up with nine passengers, cruising to the beach. See the listing here.

The late fifties/early sixties Chrysler’s were the absolute definition of both beautiful and ugly at the same time. The huge expanses of chrome, the massive grille, the over the top fins (which eventually grew to the largest in automotive history!) all magnificence! The trend was completely broken by 1964 when the over all appearance changed to a more aggressive look! Please don’t take offense from any comment I make about anything Chrysler! I have been a Chrysler FREAK all my life. I have owned a 1968 Dodge Van, one of every body type of the 1964 Valiant including 3 wagons and 5 four doors and currently own a Wagon still! Also a 1964 Chrysler 300 a 1965 Belvedere II, 1973 Chrysler Newport two door (7′ Doors!) and a 1964 Dart GT! I successfully campaigned a Hemi Cuda for three years of Bracket Racing before the demise of Fremont/Bayland’s Drag Strip in Fremont California!

Many years ago I was an owner of a 62 Newport wagon which had been order new with a 383 Police intercepter engine and dual exhaust. I was able to confirm this with the man own owned the dealership from which the car was ordered. It had a small air cleaner, four barrel, dual points, and of course, was fast! There is not a single ugly line anywhere on these cars, and with that torsion bar front suspension they drive wonderfully!

My dad had a sedan 1962 new yorker as well. Went through seven diveshafts the 413 has tons of torque. Everytime he lit the tires on the old girl we had to find a new driveshaft it would twist it into scrap. Miss that old car. Many may not know this car’s instuments and such were lit with flourescent lighting. There is a transformer up under the dash for this. He also had a parts car i still hace the instrument pod for that car i think. Also no of one about 30 miles from me same color as my dads. Seen it at the town fair two years ago. They are cool old cars and will move. My dad was clocked at 138 mph. Highway patrol in Kansas years ago middle of the night. Officer said couldn’t catch him tell he slowed down for Wichita. He only got a warning and had to open the hood. TRY THAT TODAY.
