The Off Road Evolution crew took on the BUILT from eBay challenge in a big way, coming through with a rough-and-ready machine built off of a rarely-seen 1970 Jeep Jeepster Commando. The Commando was an unlikely candidate to become a rock-crawling, river-fording monster, but the Team Four Wheeler gang took eight weeks to spin straw into gold. Muddy, dusty gold.
The full list of modifications and new pieces involved in this build is absurdly long. Some of the more notable aspects of the build include: the ’70 Jeepster body mounted on a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited frame; a fuel-injected 350 Ram Jet V8 engine; custom-built two-inch roll cage; MasterCraft Safety suspension seats and harnesses; King coilover shocks; Nitto wheels with 40-inch monster tires; Warn winch; even Al’s Liner sprayed on the interior floor and wheel wells for easy cleanup. The suspension is a murderer’s row of high end off-roading parts, and all of these were sourced from eBay Motors.
The final result is an insane spectacle of off-road enthusiasm run amok; the Off Road Evolution Jeepster looks truly mean, and sounds like it’s chewing up and spitting out boulders rather than simply driving over them. The winner of this auction is going to need to take some serious time off to go running trails in this thing.
To that end, the auction of the Off Road Evolution Team Four Wheeler Jeep will go toward helping the California Trail Users Coalition. The Coalition not only works to maintain and develop trails across the state, but they develop programs to educate newcomers about trail use and etiquette while giving trail users a voice through which they can address issues and solve problems. This is a unique cause and it’s fitting that such a unique off-road vehicle will raise money for it.
