1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

Toyota’s FJ40 has a tough-as-nails reputation. Add to that a small-block Chevrolet engine, a suspension lift, a full roll cage, and 37-inch radials, and you get a full-tilt off-road powerhouse that’ll likely keep up with any other 4×4 out on the trail.

The seller of this FJ40 is quick to not that it isn’t perfect or even completely finished, but it is a great driver with a short list of needs. It’s described as “the perfect mix of original, modification, and custom.” The paint is original, as are all the body panels, the lights, the glass, and the door moldings. Custom components include a recent small-block Chevy engine conversion, a Metal Tech full roll cage, Super Swamper IROC radials on 15×12-inch Roadhawk wheels, and side rock guards.

Items on the to do list include a smaller power steering pump pulley to help maintain power assist at low RPMs, a braking system rebuild, reinstallation of the windshield wipers, installation of new window cranks, finishing the installation of the fuel filler piping from the neck to the tank (due to the installation of the roll cage), and replacement of the rubber shackle bushings.

The floors are said to be solid, but there is some rust in the rear corners and around some external body seals. Best to ask the seller for more info, or for photos, so you can see the damaged area for yourself.

A total of 4,345 1960-1984 Toyota FJ40s have sold on eBay Motors over the past few years, with average prices topping out just under $18,000. If you’re looking for a good start on a go-anywhere rig, check this one out here.
