1970 Dodge Challenger T/A

For sheer muscle car swagger, there’s no better choice than a Plymouth Cuda or Dodge Challenger. And among them, the Challenger T/A is one of the rarest. Released as a homologation model for Sports Car Club of America Trans Am racing, each T/A came equipped with a 3×2-bbl 340-ci V8, a pinned, matte black hood, cartoon-sized hood scoop, duck tail spoiler, and “megaphone” exhaust pipes exiting at the rocker panels. Just under 2,400 were built during a one-year production run.

This restored example features everything listed above, plus factory Hurst Pistol Grip 4-speed, Rallye gauges, and Deluxe bucket seats. The 340-ci engine is not the original, but it is a factory T/A engine from another car. The Gator Grain top is an extremely rare option on a T/A, and this one is said to be factory original. It spent time in the Otis Chandler Museum, which means it’s likely in excellent condition throughout—however, a top-to-bottom inspection would be smart.

The seller doesn’t say when the restoration took place, but the car shows “chips and scratches from normal driving use, and though the driver’s seat shows wear, the interior is described as very nice, with no cracks in the dash and no tears in the headliner. He concludes his description, saying “This is one of the best all around driving Mopars I have owned.” Mopar E-bodies have been at the top of the muscle car market for quite some time, and as 267 sales of 1970-1974 Dodge Challengers on eBay Motors shows in the last year shows, they’re still hot.
